To rent an item you need to be a member of the Shared Collective community. You can register here .
All we need is your email address and a password. This will create your account where you are able to add a profile picture, track your orders and add personal information which the Lender’s will see.

To become a vendor we need your email, name and store name. As well as proof of identification (ID, Drivers License or Passport). You can register here.

This will take you to a dashboard where you curate your storefront, upload items and manage all orders.

Uploading your wardrobe couldn’t be easier!
Click on “Add Product” on your vendor dashboard:

  1. Fill in product information, including the brand name, size, fit, description and location.
  2. Upload a selection of photos that showcase your wardrobe in the best light. Please make sure to include at least one real life version of the item.

You can pause rentals at any time: DASHBOARD > SETTINGS > VACATION MODE.

This will allow you to set a period where no rentals will be allowed.

Is there a fee to list my wardrobe on Shared Co?

Listing your wardrobe is completely free! Shared Co is also free to join; there are no membership fees or monthly fees. We work on a commission-based model, so we only make money when you make money.

We charge a 10% service fee to lenders and 10% service fee to renters. This helps cover payment processing, hosting and other services to run Shared Co smoothly. 

The payment is released once the rental period has finished. You should then receive the funds within 4-5 working days depending on your local bank. 

We work with Stripe to manage our secure payment process.

You can choose to set a Security Deposit on each item, to ensure it’s returned in perfect condition.

Each renter can also purchase a R50 damage protection fee for any minor stains or damage (such as a broken zip, missing beads or minor small tear) so you have complete peace of mind.

  2. Loss of item due to carelessness, theft or other
  3. Late returns

 

In the event of any of the above, the renter would be liable to cover the estimated market value of the item, at the discretion of the Shared Co team. 

Is renting my wardrobe safe?

We know your wardrobe is your pride and joy. That’s why all Shared Co members are verified using our leading ID verification systems to ensure our community is safe and trustworthy. 

Here are some more ways we ensure safety on the platform:

  • Security Deposits: You can opt to add a security deposit to your listings, to make sure it’s returned in perfect condition. 
  • Rental Requests: You can accept or decline rental requests. Don’t be shy about communicating with a renter if you have any questions about their plans for your item!
  • ID Verification: Every member has been verified before they can request to rent. Both lenders and renters must agree to our Terms of Service.

We’re committed to making sure Shared Co is a safe way to lend and rent your wardrobe. Every  member who rents on Shared Co has completed our ID verification process for your peace of mind. 

  1. The process only takes a few minutes to complete. 
  2. We will ask for basic personal information (like your name, address, birthday, social media pages and phone number). We also ask for your driver’s licence or passport.

Each sharer is responsible for setting their weekly rental price.

We recommend listing current season pieces at 10% -15% of the retail price. For older items, we suggest around 5 – 10% of the retail price.

Top Tip: Look at similar listings and set your prices slightly lower to attract more rentals.

When a member sends a Request To Book, you’ll be able to see if they’d prefer to meet up or have the item delivered. After you have accepted the request, you can view all the details in your DASHBOARD > LENDING > UPCOMING.

    1. If you choose to meet, you can organise a time and location with the renter through our private messaging system. Make sure you meet in a public place, such as a coffee shop.

Absolutely! If you send us the following information (ideally in a spreadsheet) we’ll get your wardrobe listed:

  • Items
  • Weekly Rental Price
  • Item RRP (Recommended Retail Price)
  • Description
  • Photographs

If, on the rare occasion, someone has contacted you to pay or receive money outside the Shared Co. platform, we advise that you cease communication with that member immediately and report the user to admin@sharedcollective.co.za.

Payments and communicating with other members only through the Shared Co. platform is vital to making your experience as positive and secure as possible. If your transaction happens offline, we will have no record of it, it will not be protected, and it will be almost impossible for us to help you. 

We have been reviewing the latest research on COVID-19 and there is currently no evidence that it can be transmitted from soft surfaces like clothing to humans.

 

The latest guidance from the World Health Organization is that it is safe to receive packages, including clothing.

 

We advise both parties to wash non-dry-clean items using the warmest appropriate water setting for the items and dry items completely before rental.

If the item needs to be dry cleaned, please return the item in a bag that is either sealed or taped closed. This package can then be dry cleaned if and when it is safe to do so.

 

To stay during COVID-19 times we recommend that:

To make a cancellation, email us immediately at admin@sharedcollective.co.za with the date of your rental and the lender’s name.

When you request to book, there is a 48 hour period whereby you will be refunded if you cancel the booking. Any cancellation made after this 48 hour period, will incur a charge of 30% of the rental amount to the borrower with the rest of the rental amount refunded.

Any cancellation made within 48 hours of the rental commencement date will not be reimbursed. Cancelling last minute limits other Shared Co. members from renting the item.

It’s important that you return your rental within the rental period, as many lenders have back-to-back rentals.

Shared Co. will charge a R50 late fee each day after the last day of your rental.

Our 100% fit guarantee takes this stress away. If your item does not fit, please go to Dashboard > Order Summary > Request Fit Guarantee within 24 hours of receiving the item. 

Once requested, please post the item back to the Lender within 48 hours of the rental start date and send the Lender proof of postage. 

Once your item arrives back, Shared Co will process a full Rental Fee refund, minus the dry cleaning cost and delivery charge.
